Favorite Youth Activity/Spot
“I’d have to say the old comic shop in Morgan City. I spent a lot of time there in high school. I met a lot of friends there and we would hang out there. [When] I used to work there, my friends would come hang out on the couches while I was working. That was like the spot in town.”
Favorite Youth Memory
“I’d have to say that my favorite memory is from my freshman year at Nicholls when me and my roommate had just moved in. It was our first day in the dorms, and we had planned this board game night with our other roommates, but they ended up bailing on us. And so, my idea of making friends in a new place was to bribe people with food. So, we got a Taco Bell 12-pack and a large pepperoni pizza from Domino’s, and we set them up downstairs in Ellender, and began handing them to people who would walk by– hoping that we could stop them with conversation and make friends. And this one girl and this group of guys came by and they were like ‘We’re going to a board game night’, –like– a game night. And we were like, ‘oh’. And they were like, ‘you should come’. So they invited us, and we walked all the way across campus like a really weird, dark part of campus. It wasn’t actually that dark. It was just weird because it was our first time on a college campus. And we walked into this room with the lights dim, and there were like 30 strangers and people that we never met all sitting in a circle and asked if we wanted to play a game called ‘werewolf’. And I’m so glad we decided to say yes because that was one of the best moments of my entire life– just like playing games with complete strangers in a new place. It really made me feel welcome at Nicholls and it was a really great way for me and my roommate to bond. And so I feel like without that, my college experience would have been very different.”
