Bourg, Louisiana
My uncle was shot right after he had loaded up the car and the dogs for him and my aunt to retire to Mississippi. They were saying their last goodbyes to my great grandmother and the suspects had come out from behind him and stole his phone, shot him and ran.

Connection

He is my technically, great uncle, but like we don’t usually use those terms. I just say my uncle.

Memories

Since I was really young at the time of his death, a lot of my memories around him involves his work with different churches, cause he was a deacon.

He was a very religious man, so that’s mostly what I remember him doing and always being adamant and part of the church.

Reminders

I mean, churches are just like his thing to me because he was just so developed in his faith. And I mean, whenever I go back [home] and I see the church that we held his funeral at and the churches that he worked at, that’s all I can think.

Wish I could say

I don’t really have anything that I wish I could say. I just wish I would have had more time to learn from him and he was a really great man.

He knew so much, and him and my aunt both had lots of loss in their life already. And I just wish I could have really known him more and known him longer since I was so young.
