Coastal land loss has directly impacted me because we’ve lost a lot of storm protection in past hurricanes due to coastal erosion. With Hurricane Ida, I watched my grandparents lose everything they’ve ever owned and the same can be said for plenty of other people in our area.
I think what people should do about coastal land loss is really just spread as much awareness as possible via social media or word of mouth. Definitely talk to local lawmakers and legislators because they have a lot of impact and they have significantly more impact on coastal land loss than federal lawmakers, so it’s very important that we talk to these people and overall try to convince the governor to take coastal restoration efforts more seriously. Because he has not taken those efforts very seriously as of recently. So I think it’s imperative that we convince our politicians and local leaders that coastal restoration is a very big deal and it’s very important.
